Avana Retreat, Mai Chau

Set on the mountainside by a hidden waterfall, Avana Retreat consist of 36 villas amongst the forest and paddy fields. Built by crafts men from the local villages using traditional techniques, the villas blend with the landscape and have sustainability at their core. Each has a generous balcony with grand views of the valley, traditional, earthy decor and a luxurious finish, some have private swimming pools and there are two bed-roomed options for families. Guests can head to the main restaurant for meals and there is a large infinity pool which has a pool bar, serving drinks, lunch and afternoon snacks. The retreat has its own farm where much of the food served is grown. Wellness is a feature throughout the property with a spa, yoga and meditation centre in which guests can take classes and also a library in which to relax. Various activities on site celebrate the local culture, the staff all come from the local villages and there are various workshops such as candle making, weaving and batik. as well as a cookery class. The stilt museum and cultural shows can teach guests more about the local culture. Venturing further from the property, guests can take a jeep tour or explore the waterways by kayak.
