Located on the banks of the Tambopata River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River, lies the Tambopata Research Center. TRC is one of the most remote jungle lodges in South America and can be found deep within the Tambopata National Reserve. Its origins were as a small shack-like accommodation to house researchers and scientists carrying out remote studies. It then began hosting tourists as a means of funding its projects and has since developed into one of the area’s most comfortable lodges, abeit still basic and very remote. No doubt a draw is still the scientists that continue to carry out their work there and host some of the excursions and occasionally offer lectures. While rustic, the lodge provides an educational experience with one of the best chances at encountering the forest’s rich wildlife.
